How do v get to the here and NOW

hey although living in the "here and now" seems to be the trick to" living" life.. i am frankly at a loss as to how we could practically do this?.. oki theoretically i;ve read that u needed to meditate and focus on u're breath etc.. but seriously. has anyone (of us) done this so far?... or has attempted to..... to not frett abt the future/ regret etcc and give u're 100% to the here and now or atleast 75%... well if one of u guys gave done it i;de really like to know HOW? and is it even possible in a world where millions of things bombard our sesory inputs and our brain is literally frying trying to process it all....

  • First, heres my dated link to the earlier thoughts on this,

'Here and Now' is a catchphrase, the interpretation of which is completely dependent of the context, I will simply assume that your question is meant to address a way of life, and try to answer it as I see it. Some disclaimers are in order before I start, all this is as I found are applicable to me, and it is well known that many others (even here :-D) are severly critical about my way of life.... so anyways what I mean to say is the answer is specific to each person, so I can write down my answer (To 'Life, Universe and Everthing?') ... but each one, if interested can find there own... hopefully there will be common ground.

Guidelines to being 'Here and Now'
    ----------------------------------

    1) There is no black and white, everything is a shade of gray. ("Only sith deal in absolutes" - Obi-wan Kenobe ;-) )

    2) Loose yourself - Meditation and focused breathing is all well and good, but I beg to differ. You will have time for focusing inwards, but for most of your concious life, just be more aware of something other than yourself, your own needs. This boils down into being more aware of your surroundings when walking by yourself, being more aware of other people when you are with a group. Being aware does not mean that you are supposed to be intrusive! , passive observance is often times better than ill-judged intervention (more on this later) This sounds like an easy thing, but I'm surprised at how few people do it. Like watching the trees when you walk - thats what everyone says, but do you take it to heart? what about the clouds? the stars (especially when there is a power cut, but that shouldn't be the only thing that drives you to it :-D ), the sea? ever so beautiful and changing, the fog? seeping through and claiming the land in a white embrace.... ahh... things to watch are endless...

Say you are stuck in an office, if you have a window you are lucky, but what, you ask me if you are in a cubicle... well... you can watch people.... people are very very interesting :-) Or you can read about something which doesnt seemingly directly benefit you for a change :-D....

    3) "Time is an illusion, lunchtime doubly so" - Douglas Adams
At least make an effort to stop being driven by the ticks, this goes in hand with (2). Hasn't our world gotten so boring with everyone being so 'busy'. Would you rather have time to mindlessly pursue tasks but not have time to think.... using a well-hacked well-known story to illustrate this,
    http://www.storybin.com/sponsor/sponsor124.shtml
Yeah, maybe all of us cannot afford to idle fishing... but do we at least make the effort? :-)

    4) Reality checks are good, and cynicism is a good source of wit and humour. But when it comes to life, there is nothing to beat blind, seemingly naive, positivism. (Ever read Pollyanna?, how about trying match it with 'Anne Franks Diary'?) If you think things are bad, always remember that some have it much worse. And often the problems that seem so big to us are just petty compared to real issues.

I dont mean to ramble on, and this is getting to be too long a comment, but I do have heaps of both coherent and reasoned out thoughts and scattered half-baked ideas on this...

All of what I say would be part and parcel rhetoric about 'chillin', 'being mellow' and so on... but I really havnt seen many people practising it. After all nothing comes without effort, and nothing comes without sacrifice, and this way of life (see... thats where u end up eventually from 'here and now' :-)) leaves you a target for being lazy. Actually, laziness is your best friend and your worst enemy... former since it save you the rat race, and latter since you do not want to degenerate yourself into a couch potatoe.

Maybe I do not make much sense. Perhaps I am talking a load of bullshit. Perhaps this is all been part of your growing up stage you already left behind.... anyways its worked out well... so far ;-)
